Ahead of the Eredivisie fixture between PSV and sc Heerenveen on Thursday 7 December, Ruud Gullit will reveal his Walk of Fame tile. The former PSV player will be the eighteenth star whose name is etched in history.
Future world star
Gullit made 75 appearances in all competitions for PSV in the 1985/86 and the 1986/87 seasons. Gullit soon became a darling of the crowd and had a major impact on clinching two Eredivisie titles, scoring 53 goals. The forward/midfielder was named “Dutch Footballer of the Year”, when he plied his trade for PSV.
Record transfer fee and National pride
Gullit signed for AC Milan in 1987 for a record transfer fee of 16,5 million guilders. Marco van Basten and Frank Rijkaard joined Gullit to form a legendary golden trio. Gullit was awarded the Ballon d’Or, football’s most prestigious and valuable individual award in the same year. Ruud Gullit won the European Cup I twice with AC Milan and helped the Dutch national football team win the UEFA EURO 1988. He is widely regarded as one of the best Dutch football players of all time.
A gift that lasts forever
In close cooperation with sponsor energiedirect.nl PSV built a Walk of Fame near the Philips Stadion in 2022. On the eastern side of the stadium, a tiled path was constructed with the footprints of PSV legends Fans could vote for their favourite player and Gullit was one of them.
