Jerdy Schouten's professional football career began relatively quietly. As an attacking midfielder, he hardly got any playing time at ADO Den Haag, so he decided to continue his career at Telstar. There he stood out, which earned him a transfer to Excelsior. Schouten also made an impression in Rotterdam: after only one season, he left again, this time for Italian club FC Bologna.
In Serie A, he developed into a top-class defensive midfielder. Bologna saw him as the perfect controller, and with success: in three seasons, the South Holland native played 109 matches for the Rossoblu.
His strong performances did not go unnoticed. In the summer of 2023, PSV signed him as the successor to Ibrahim Sangaré, who had left for Nottingham Forest. Schouten became a fixture in the Eindhoven midfield and caught the eye of national team manager Ronald Koeman. In 2024, he was selected for the European Championship in Germany, crowning his rise to the top of football.
