Cody Gakpo is the best Eredivisie player of the 2021-2022 season. The 23-year-old striker has been named Player of the Year and winner of the Golden Shoe by reporters from De Telegraaf. Gakpo is the first Golden Shoe winner to be trained at PSV Academy. The last PSV player to be named best player of the Eredivisie was Georginio Wijnaldum in 2014-2015.
Top season
Gakpo was decisive at all levels and in all competitions for PSV. In the Eredivisie, he provided 13 assists and the Eindhoven native scored 12 goals. He was directly involved in a goal for every 76 minutes, making him the most prolific player on Dutch fields during last season. Voetbal International also named Gakpo as Player of the Year 2021-2022.
History
Besides Gini , other PSV players including Ruud Gullit, Mark van Bommel and Johann Vogel won the Golden Shoe. The award has been presented annually since 1982 to the best player of the Dutch league based on ratings by former internationals of the Dutch national team.
