Paul is considered one of the greatest German talents of his generation. At the age of sixteen, he made his breakthrough as the youngest debutant ever in Bayern Munich's club history. In the years that followed, he gained experience through loan spells at Elversberg and Heidenheim.

In Eindhoven, he succeeds Malik Tillman, who was also acquired from Bayern Munich. Although Wanner can also play as a winger, he feels most at home as an attacking midfielder. The German youth international (U21) has signed a contract until mid-2030.
