At age sixteen, Paul made his breakthrough as the youngest debutant ever in Bayern Munich’s club history. In the years that followed, he gained experience through loan spells at Elversberg and Heidenheim.

In Eindhoven in 2025, he succeeded Malik Tillman , who had also been acquired from Bayern Munich. Although Wanner can also play as a winger, he feels most at home as an attacking midfielder. In his first season with PSV, Paul made an important decision: he committed to playing for the Austrian national team. Consequently, in the summer of 2026, he made his debut at the World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
