PSV Women had a successful weekend in the Eurojackpot Women’s Eredivisie. The team secured a relatively easy victory over sc Heerenveen. Five different players scored the goals.
In the opening phase, it seemed only a matter of time before PSV would score. Shanice van de Sanden repeatedly shook off her direct opponent and set up her teammates on several occasions. It didn’t result in a goal. The missed opportunities seemed to come back to haunt them when sc Heerenveen unexpectedly took the lead. Kasper Kurland’s team briefly lost their composure but quickly regained their footing. Just before halftime, Liz Rijsbergen tied the score for PSV.
Full steam ahead
Thanks to FC Twente’s loss to Ajax, a victory would allow PSV to close the gap on their eastern rival. Lore Jacobs delivered immediately after halftime. With a well-placed shot into the top corner, the Belgian international beat the goalkeeper and put PSV ahead. Moments later, Jacobs played a key role again, this time as the provider. Sisca Folkertsma headed in the 3-1 goal off her corner kick.
The two-goal lead was narrowed shortly thereafter by a quick goal from sc Heerenveen. However, Chimera Ripa quickly restored the lead. From a difficult angle, the number ten found the back of the net. In the closing minutes, Melanie Bross sealed the final score at 5-2. The defender scored her first goal of the season, easily finishing off a corner kick.
