Mark van Bommel will be the trainer of PSV O19 next season. This means the former midfielder will have his own team under his charge for the first time.
Ideal step
Van Bommel sees coaching and training PSV O19 as the ideal step in his coaching career, he reveals. "You can't map out anything in football, but I have thought about it. I don't want to start at professional football level, because I haven't been responsible for my own team at all. Therefore, I am now starting with the highest possible youth team. There I try to convey my own idea of football."
Ready for role as coach
Currently, Van Bommel is still a specialist coach at PSV. He is also assistant to Bert van Marwijk at Saudi Arabia, which he will remain next season towards the 2018 World Cup in Russia. "A whole process preceded this," Van Bommel explained. "Right after I quit in 2013, I started doing the trainer course. Meanwhile, I did an internship with Jürgen Dirkx's PSV O17 and was an assistant with Oranje O17. I tried to orient myself broadly in all areas. By doing so, you create an idea about how you want to play football and how you want to train an eleven. Now I really feel I'm up to that."
