PSV has learned with sadness of the death of Tonny Bruins Slot. Bruins Slot was with PSV for more than four years during two terms. The football coach turned 73 years old.
Eye for weaknesses
Tonny Bruins Slot gained fame in the Netherlands mainly as Johan Cruijff's assistant coach at Ajax and FC Barcelona. Like no other, he knew how to expose his opponent's weaknesses and thereby win matches for his coach.
Champion as assistant
At PSV, he was manager of the youth academy from 1996 and 1999. Later in his career, he became Ronald Koeman's assistant coach at Ajax and Benfica, among others. With him, Bruins Slot returned to Eindhoven in the 2006-2007 season. In that season, Koeman and Bruins Slot reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League with PSV and the club became champions by beating Vitesse 5-1 on the final day. Bruins Slot was still working in football until recently. He also worked for Valencia and AZ in the past.
PSV wishes relatives, friends, (former) colleagues and acquaintances strength in coping with the loss of Tonny Bruins Slot.
