PSV is strengthening its selection with international Siem de Jong (27). The club is renting the attacking midfielder from Newcastle United next season. On Monday afternoon, De Jong signed a contract that makes him a PSV player for one year. "I am very happy that PSV came out to me," he said.
Grateful
Siem de Jong is the older brother of captain Luuk de Jong. It is the first time in their professional careers that both brothers are playing together in one club team. "I'm really looking forward to that. It's been a wish of both of us for a long time. It seems very special when it actually happens soon," said the midfielder, who successfully passed his medical examination last weekend and was immediately introduced to De Herdgang. "I am fit and can actually start training with the group immediately. In the coming weeks I mainly have to gain rhythm. It is also very nice to join a club that plays in the UEFA Champions League and fights for the title. I am very happy that PSV came to me, I am grateful to PSV."
Four times champion
De Jong (Aigle, June 28, 1989) became national champion four times in his career with Ajax, the club where he was under contract between 2007 and 2014. Successively in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. He also won the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Schaal once in service to the Amsterdammers. Before De Jong was accepted into Ajax's youth training program, Siem, like his brother Luuk, played in the youth of De Graafschap. After eight years at Ajax, Siem de Jong left for Newcastle United in the summer of 2014. There he played the past few seasons, partly due to some injuries, 22 matches in which he scored once. In the Eredivisie, De Jong scored 57 goals in 169 games.
Welcome to PSV, Siem!
