PSV convincingly defeated Willem II and treated the crowd to a seven-goal rout. After the match, head coach Peter Bosz , and Ruben van Bommel spoke highly of the team’s performance and the energy they brought to the field. “We kept pushing until the 90th minute and wanted to score more and more goals.”

You didn’t score much in recent weeks, but now you’ve netted seven. How do you view that?
“We did create chances, but wecertainly didn’t score much. Today we got off to a strong start right away and scored plenty. Of course, we were missing a true striker, but you saw that player in action tonight. After about ten minutes, he’d already put one in the net. He looked fresh and made a strong impact.”

You changed the formation. What was the thinking behind that?
“I had expected Willem II, with a new coach, to sit back a bit more. Especially after their 6-1 home loss to SC Cambuur, I could imagine they’d park the bus here. That didn’t happen. So I moved Dest a bit further forward, and Geertruida played on the right wing. Those are patterns we use more often, though they usually develop organically from the flow of the game.”

The loss to ADO is still fresh in our minds, but you’re positive about the football you’re playing right now. Is this the best stretch of the season?
“Yes, because I thought we played well in the first half against Feyenoord and at FC Porto, too. Both in the way we apply pressure and force the opponent back, and in the energy we bring. Today, that energy was once again in full force, even among the guys who came off the bench. We kept pushing until the 90th minute and wanted to score more and more goals.”

What do you think of Shuryjano Cornecion’s performance?
“He’s a potential player for PSV 1. I saw the eagerness we expect from him today. He can dribble, is technically skilled, can score goals, and easily gets past opponents. But the most important thing is the energy he brings to the game. He showed that today.”

Is this the ideal build-up to the midweek match against Club Brugge?
“Definitely. The most important thing is to win and come out of the game injury-free. We played a good first half, but it certainly wasn’t easy. Willem II chose to apply full pressure and play man-to-man. We had to work hard for it. So the 2-0 lead just before halftime was a great way to head into the locker room. Because we scored again early in the second half, we were able to give a few guys a rest.”

RUBEN VAN BOMMEL

How do you look back on today’s match?
“We played a good game, and that makes everyone feel good. Seven different players scored at a time when you have to be extra sharp. It was important to win this match, and fortunately, we did.”

What can you achieve if you maintain this level of play?
“If we keep this up and win as much as possible, we have a good chance of accomplishing something great. We know that given our qualities. However, you have to prove it every week, and today is a good example of how it’s done.”

How are you working on improving your own game?
“It’s the small details that allow me to help the team even more, because that can sometimes be very important. I’m getting better at it all the time. Think, for example, about where you receive the ball on the field and how you create opportunities.”

Is a good run of games important right now?
“Absolutely. The European leagues are in full swing and the cup competition is coming up, so putting together a good run of games is hugely important right now.”
