PSV secured its first victory in the UEFA Champions League. In an away match against FC Porto, Peter Bosz ’s team won 1-0. It was the first time since 2016 that PSV had kept a clean sheet in an away match on Europe’s highest stage.

In March 2016, PSV played to a 0-0 draw on the road against Atlético Madrid. Unfortunately, the team was ultimately eliminated on penalty kicks at the time. Last Tuesday evening, a flawless defensive performance secured a full three points, as Guus Til scored the only goal of the night on the other end. It is the third time Guus has scored a goal in the UEFA Champions League. Sven Mijnans provided the assist, exactly the opposite of what happened last Saturday against ADO Den Haag.

Unfortunately, we have to dig a bit to find an away victory with a clean sheet in the UEFA Champions League: The last time was in November 2007. Back then, against CSKA Moscow, the score was 0-1.

Statistics
PSV played a dominant game in Porto, as the statistics also show. The Red-and-Whites completed 616 passes, 200 more than the home team. In addition, PSV took more shots on goal, though they were unlucky in that regard: Both Bajraktarevic and Kostic hit the woodwork.

For Amir Bouhamdi , the match in Portugal was a special evening. The young PSV U21 player made his debut in the UEFA Champions League. He entered the game in the closing stages as a substitute for Ivan Perišić.

Behind the Team
Not only the team, but also the traveling supporters made an impression. “When we walked onto the field, I could already hear our fans cheering the loudest. It even made me want to play football myself,” explained Peter Bosz after the match. More than 2,500 PSV fans traveled to Portugal this week to support the club.

With this victory, PSV has four points after three matches, following a draw against Shakhtar Donetsk (1-1) and a loss to RB Leipzig (1-0). PSV is currently in16th place, but some teams in the league are still set to play today. On Wednesday, November 4, PSV will play its next match in the UEFA Champions League. Club Brugge will visit the Philips Stadium.
