After the FC Twente-PSV match, Mark van Bommel announced that he is quitting as a professional footballer. The 36-year-old captain made that worldly announcement in front of the camera of Eredivisie Live. After twenty seasons of top football and nine championships, he has enrolled in the TC1 trainer course. Mark: thank you for the many wonderful years!
Top professional, winner pur sang
Van Bommel received his second yellow card of the match in Enschede after 70 minutes, forcing him to go to the dressing rooms early. Afterwards in the mixed-zone, he gave a clear answer to the question that has been asked several times in recent weeks, but had not received an answer until today. After speaking to all the camera teams and writing press, Van Bommel then boarded the players' bus for the last time. PSV still has two practice matches ahead of them - Tuesday Fortuna Sittard-PSV and Friday Gemert-PSV - and another farewell to Van Bommel is being planned, but no more can be communicated about that yet. Mark van Bommel: club hero, Dutch football great, on top professional and winner pur sang!
