PSV will face FC Porto on Tuesday evening in the third matchday of the UEFA Champions League. Kickoff is at 9:00 p.m. at the Estádio do Dragão, where both teams will be seeking their first European victory of the season.

PSV is still searching for its first win in the group stage. The team started with a 1-1 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk, followed by a 1-0 loss to RB Leipzig in Germany. As a result, PSV has one point after two matches. Still, Peter Bosz saw plenty of positives in the match against the German club. The coach felt his team played well for large stretches of the game and was particularly disappointed that they didn’t come away with a result.

Current Status of FC Porto
FC Porto is led by Francesco Farioli, who previously coached Ajax. Under his guidance, FC Porto got off to a strong start in the Portuguese league. With 24 points, the club sits flawlessly at the top of the Primeira Liga. Last year, the Italian led Porto to the national title.

In the UEFA Champions League, the season has been less successful so far: the first two matches were lost. The Portuguese team lost their most recent match 3-2 on the road against Real Betis. Goals were scored by Gabri Veiga and Samuel Aghehowa. Veiga has scored a total of five goals for FC Porto in official matches this season and has provided three assists.

FC Porto is known as Os Dragões, or the Dragons. The dragon is an important symbol of the club and appears both in the logo and in the stadium’s name.

History
PSV and FC Porto have faced each other four times previously in European competition. The first match took place in October 1988, when PSV won 5-0 at home. In the return leg, FC Porto won 2-0. The teams also faced each other in the UEFA Champions League in 1992. The match in Portugal ended in a 2-2 draw, after which FC Porto won 0-1 in Eindhoven.

FC Porto has a rich European history. The club won the UEFA Champions League twice, in 1987 and 2004. That last title was won under the leadership of José Mourinho, who had also led FC Porto to the UEFA Cup a year earlier.

Bobby Robson, who had previously coached PSV, took over at FC Porto in January 1994. With that, the English coach secured a place in the history of both clubs.
