PSV U21 left a good impression in the first match after the winter break. The pledges played strongly against top-ranked Jong Ajax, but were unable to reward themselves. It ended 0-0 at PSV Campus De Herdgang.
Debutants
Due to the various training camps, PSV U21 had quite a few absentees against Jong Ajax. As a result, coach Peter Uneken gave talents Mees Kreekels, Shurandy Sambo and Mathias Kjølø the chance. The debutant trio had a fine opening phase with the team. Not surprisingly, the first big chance of the match was for PSV U21. Ngonge cleverly made himself free between the lines, but met Jong Ajax goalkeeper Scherpen in the finish. Ten minutes before halftime, the goalie had to save again, this time after a dribble by Andrew Mondonça.
Matthias Kjølø was one of the better ones in the PSV U21 side.
Timan
There were no goals, however, even though the few opportunities that Jong Ajax created did not pose any problems for goalkeeper Youri Roulaux. In the second half, the first chance was also for PSV U21. A good attack set up by Sambo ended at the feet of Kjølø. The Norwegian had plenty of time to strike, but he too hit Scherpen's hands. Only then did the guests get into the game better, which resulted in a number of good opportunities that were defused by Roulaux. In the closing stages, after Damian Timan had also made his debut as a professional footballer, the game went back to normal. Ajax had to continue with ten men, but PSV U21 could not take advantage of the numerical majority.
