Mark van Bommel does not agree with the criticism sometimes given to PSV's play. "We play very stable and we actually hardly give away any chances. For a long time now. Sometimes it takes a bit longer before we destroy an opponent, but we often succeed. That is quality," the head coach said during his weekly press interview.
PEC Zwolle
Before focusing on Vitesse, Van Bommel took a brief look back at the win over PEC Zwolle when asked. After a somewhat laborious first half, PSV showed no ill-form after halftime. After Steven Bergwijn's 2-0, PSV pushed PEC far back and ran out to 3- and 4-0. Bergwijn's goal was firmly celebrated by Van Bommel along the line. "At a moment like that I feel more like a player than a trainer," the head coach explained. "I was happy for Steven that he scored. And it was a beautiful goal."
Pereiro
Another who drew attention without scoring was Gastón Pereiro. The Uruguayan returned to the team and on several occasions set some teammates free in front of goal. "It is a player with special qualities," thought Van Bommel, who then explained his return to the PSV starting lineup after a while of absence. "Gastón is just a player a team needs. If the team is in a little less shape, it goes a little faster at his expense. The good thing is that Gastón is a player who doesn't get confused if he doesn't play for a while. You don't notice from him that he hasn't played for a while. That is also imperturbability. That's a quality."
Vitesse
Whether the Uruguayan will also start against Vitesse, Van Bommel did not want to say. However, he does expect a difficult match in the Gelredome. "I say it often, but it's just a very difficult opponent with a lot of quality," the coach said of Vitesse. "They have started to play slightly differently, but play football with an idea. It will be a tough match, but I always expect that."
