PSV U21 and FC Volendam both had not won for a while. In a very energetic match it was immediately clear what everyone's intentions were. Thanks in part to a very sharp Romero, the hard-fought game ended in a draw.
Struggle
Under the persistent rain, Maxime Delanghe was the outstanding player in the early stages. With two clever saves he kept his team on their feet. They were not the only feats in that period, as the highly energetic teams both fired a good number of shots. The visitors opened the scoring when a swabbing ball passed Delanghe. PSV U21 did not leave it at that and came out well on a number of occasions. Maxi Romero, who joined from the A-squad, forced a penalty kick and took it, equalizing the score. Bakayoko almost gave his team the lead, but his effort went wide.
Blistering final phase
After the break it was still raining, but FC Volendam wanted to take it by storm. The away team was dangerous several times and then scored via a corner. At PSV U21, however, Romero was still on the pitch and he showed again what he can do. At speed he beat his direct opponent and with a drive he passed goalkeeper Filip Stankovic. PSV U21 took the initiative after the equalizer, but after several chances they still did not have the lead. It was a miracle that no goals were scored in the closing stages, because the visitors were also knocking on the door. In the last minute, PSV U21 had another huge chance, but the points would be shared that night.
