Head coach Ruud van Nistelrooij is ecstatic after winning the cup final. At the post-match press conference, he discusses what for him was the story of the evening: Joël Drommel.
"It was a football party," Van Nistelrooij began the press conference, who was then asked what struck him most. "I love the story of Joël Drommel. That's why I went to him first. I believe in him as a professional, player and human being. That he turned a penalty kick is very special."
Of course it was also about Fábio Silva, who scored the decisive penalty kick. "Great finish. It was very important for us. I also lost the Cup once. You only get those chances a few times and that's why there is so much pressure. When the boys are eighty later they can still tell about this. It stays with you forever."
Penalty kicks
"We paid attention to that," Van Nistelrooij said when asked if he trained on penalty kicks. Of course, in a final like that it's different from training. But in the end we won the Cup via penalty kicks and nobody can take that away from us anymore."
