An unforgettable record night, with six goals, the biggest UEFA Champions League win in club history. PSV provided a huge stunt on Tuesday night by beating SSC Napoli 6-2.
In Eindhoven, supporters experienced a UEFA Champions League evening that will be remembered for a long time. Everything fell into place for PSV that turned out with its biggest win ever in the main tournament of the UEFA Champions League. The 6-2 against Napoli was not only historic for the club, but also unique in the Netherlands: no Dutch team had scored six goals at the highest European level since 1979.
Scoring in Europe
PSV continues to put up impressive numbers in Europe: the team has scored in each of the last eighteen home games at the European level. The last time PSV failed to score at home was at Aug. 24, 2022. It was also the first time since 2012 that PSV scored six goals in a European match, then in the Europa League playoffs against FK Zeta.
Ismael Saibari in blood form
It was Ismael Saibari who put PSV ahead with the 2-1. The Moroccan midfielder is in absolute top form: it was his sixth goal in the main tournament of the UEFA Champions League, his eighth European goal in total and his fifth goal in the last six games. The assist came from Guus Til, who thus notched his second assist in this UCL season, both times to Ismael Saibari.
Historic goal by Dennis Man
Moments later it was the turn of Dennis Man, who tapped in the 3-1. For the Romanian it was a special moment: it was his first goal in the UEFA Champions League and his first in the Philips Stadium. Moreover, it was the 300th official European goal in PSV's history. The assist came from Mauro Júnior, who thus notched his first UCL assist. Dennis Man also made the 4-1 later in the match, this time on a pass from Joey Veerman. For Joey it meant his fourth assist of the season.
Decisive substitutions
The substitutes completed the party. In the 84th minute, Peter Bosz brought on Ricardo Pepi and Couhaib Driouech, and that proved to be a good move.
Just three minutes later, Ricardo Pepi signed for the 5-2, on a pass from Couhaib Driouech. For the American striker, it was his fourth goal in the UEFA Champions League main tournament and his fifth European goal in total.
Not much later, the two turned the tables: Couhaib made it 6-2 in the 89th minute, following an assist from Ricardo Pepi. It was Couhaib's fourth official goal for PSV, including two in the UEFA Champions League, and also his first at the Philips Stadium.
Man of the Match
With two goals and a strong game, Dennis Man was the deserved Man of the Match. This individual award also marked his first Man of the Match award in the UEFA Champions League.
