It became a historic night on hallowed football ground: PSV's 1-4 win over Liverpool FC goes into the books. Not only because PSV beat another European superpower, but especially because it scored four goals at Anfield. In European terms, only Real Madrid preceded Peter Bosz 's team in this.

Real Madrid's spectacular 2-5 win in February 2023 was, until last night, the only time a visiting club scored four or more goals at Anfield in a European match. The Madrilenians won 1-0 at home, eliminating Liverpool in the eighth finals.

PSV previously played three times away at Anfield (2006, 2007 and 2008) and lost all those matches. So Wednesday's win is PSV's first away victory over Liverpool. PSV also won at home this season: in January it beat the English national champions 3-2 in the last game of the leaguepPhase.

Statistics
Ivan Perišić opened the scoring from the penalty spot. It was his second goal of the season and his first since the opening game on Aug. 9 against Sparta Rotterdam.
Guus Til, maker of the 1-2, already stood at nine season goals - all in the Eredivisie. For Til, moreover, it was his first goal in the UEFA Champions League, after 22 games played.

Couhaib Driouech then scored two goals in just 20 minutes. With that, he recorded impressive figures in his Champions League debut season: three goals and one assist in just 75 minutes of playing time. His strong substitute performance earned him UEFA's official Man of the Match award.

Points and goal difference
PSV is fifteenth after five rounds of play with eight points. It records a better goal difference (five) than 26 teams in the league phase. Last season, PSV also stood at eight points after five rounds of play.
