PSV came close to their first win at the ArenA in nearly four years, but saw a late goal throw a spanner in the works. Despite the draw, there were plenty of highlights in the 70th edition of Ajax - PSV.
For a while, the World Cup seemed uncertain for Sergiño Dest , after the back limped out injured in March's home game against AZ. On Saturday, those fears proved unfounded, and in the 59th minute the American returned to the field. During his substitution he immediately showed his class and was again important for Peter Bosz's team.
Lightning start
The match had barely begun and the ball was already in the net. It was Ricardo Pepi who opened the scoring after 33 seconds and scored the fastest goal ever in a match between Ajax and PSV. With this, 'El Tren' stamped his good form and already scored his 17th goal this season.
Golden switch
Myron Boadu also had a lightning start: five minutes into his substitution, he tied the net. The striker is usually more effective in big games and scored no fewer than nine times in his last eight duels against Ajax and Feyenoord.
Anniversary match
The match against Ajax was marked by several anniversaries. Ricardo reached the milestone of 100 games in the service of PSV, in which the American was often decisive. For example, in his 100 matches he scored no less than 43 goals and gave 8 assists.
The match against Ajax also had an extra charge for Mauro Júnior . Mauro already became the Brazilian with the most games for PSV earlier this season and extended this number to two hundred on Saturday. The Brazilian has been playing in Eindhoven since 2017 and has since developed into a valuable player who can play in various positions.
Peter Bosz coached this game his 100th league game as coach of PSV. The coach made history in his first 100 games in service to PSV, winning no fewer than 79 games. With this, the coach holds the record in the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie for the most wins ever in the first hundred games at one club.
