PSV Women took an important step toward their first national title on Sunday. Roeland ten Berge 's team won 0-1 away at sc Heerenveen. Competitors Ajax, FC Twente and Feyenoord all dropped points, meaning the lead for second place is now two points.
PSV started the match well at Sportpark Skoatterwâld. After six minutes, Fenna Kalma fired the first shot, but her effort flew wide of the goal. More chances followed, but the home team occasionally became dangerous on the counter. Just before halftime, the home team looked to make it 1-0 after a free kick was headed in. However, the flag went up for offside and both teams went to tea without a goal.
Renate again important
As the second half progressed, it became more and more butt-kicking. PSV was dominant, but seemed all but assured of that one redeeming goal. There was cheering in the stands nevertheless, as FC Twente found themselves trailing 0-1 and later 0-2. The sign for the girls that they needed to seize their chance to move further ahead in the rankings. Ten Berge brought three offensive impulses with Chimera Ripa, Riola Xhemaili and Renate Jansen, and with success: an early cross from Riola was cleverly headed in by Renate, who barely got to the ball.
The task after that was to hold on to the lead, but Heerenveen did not exactly cooperate. The Frisians had two big chances. Fortunately, they did not manage to capitalize on these. The greater the euphoria afterwards, because the team knew: this is a very important win.
