PSV Women seemed to be on their way to their second cup win in club history for a long time today, but ultimately saw it go by the wayside. In a riveting final in which PSV was in control for a long time, the Tukkers were effective in the closing stages and FC Twente drew the longest after a penalty shootout.

At the Kasteel, Roeland ten Berge 's team flew out of the starting blocks, hitting the crossbar within a minute via a shot by Liz Rijsbergen. After this FC Twente became stronger, but PSV held their ground at the back. After twenty minutes of play Liz took the opening goal, placing the ball in the short corner out of reach of the Twente goalkeeper. As the first half progressed, Croina Dekker's team came closer to the goal more often, but no major chances were created. As a result, PSV went into the locker room with a 0-1 lead.

PSV on roses
In the second half, the Tukkers immediately went hunting for the equalizer. A corner kick gave FC Twente a great chance to make it 1-1, but Riola Xhemaili managed to get the ball off the line. After this chance PSV Women came close to a second goal. Via a shot by Nina Nijstad , PSV hit the woodwork for the second time this game and the score remained unchanged. After more than an hour PSV had another chance to make it 2-0, but Liz saw her effort turned away after a nice dribble. Not much later the striker found the net and scored her second of the day, bringing PSV close to winning the cup.

FC Twente fights back
In the 84th minute, FC Twente brought the tension back into the match and got to 1-2 through Ravensbergen. Almost immediately after this goal, the Tukkers became more dangerous and the Eindhoven last line was put under pressure. In the absolute closing stages FC Twente even managed to force an equalizer and the Twente striker scored her second of the day one minute before the end of regular playing time. This forced Ten Berge's team to get ready for the extension.

Decision
In the first part of the extension, PSV was dangerous at times and substitute Fenna Kalma pounced on the goalkeeper with a hard shot in the 96th minute. After this opportunity, the game was evenly matched and both teams looked for a decisive goal. However, this goal did not come and the score was still tied after 120 minutes, so the decision had to be made in the penalty shootout.

In this series, PSV Women had an unfortunate start, after FC Twente took the first penalty and Emma Frijns missed her penalty kick. After this, Moon Biegel Esteves appeared to turn a Twente penalty, but it appeared that the goalkeeper was off her line too early, and in the retake, the Tukkers did find the net. After this, Janice Cayman, Sisca Folkertsma and Fenna Kalma all utilized their penalties, but FC Twente was just as effective, increasing the tension and putting Dekker's team on match point. Moon, however, did her team a tremendous service and turned the penalty kick, delaying the decision. The joy was unfortunately short-lived, as Gwyneth Hendriks missed her penalty kick, allowing FC Twente to walk away with the cup win.
