In the 1950s Coen Dillen did it and later, in the 1960s Bert Theunissen did it. Scoring five times in a league game. And in 2019, a third PSV player may be added: Donyell Malen. 'I am especially very proud.'
Talk of town
With his five goals, Malen was the Talk of town afterwards in the catacomb of the Philips Stadium. "Whether I've ever scored five goals before?" the man responsible for all five PSV goals Saturday night repeated the question from one of the journalists. "Yes, in the D2 haha."
Great moments
Malen excelled earlier this month with the Dutch national team for which he made his debut and scored immediately. "They are all very beautiful moments. I can be very proud of that. Playing and scoring in Orange, that does give you a bit more self-confidence."
Van Bommel: 'I have to remain critical'
Mark van Bommel visibly enjoyed his pupil's performance. "It is exceptional that Donyell scores five goals," the head coach began at the press conference. "And I am extremely satisfied with the result, but we could have, no should have, actually got a number of goals against as well," Van Bommel confessed honestly.
"I have to remain critical," he continued. "At the beginning of the games we should have fallen behind. After that, we came into the game better. We didn't play spectacularly, but were patient. We scored a good second goal and soon after halftime the third. Then fortunately it was played."
