Which media have players and trainers spoken to? What happens behind the scenes and how do former PSV players fare? PSV is a topic of conversation. Always and everywhere. This Monday we look at how the (former) PSV players fared in the international.
Orange dangles by a thread
Former PSV player Davy Pröpper was the big man in the Dutch national team's victory over Bulgaria on Sunday night. The midfielder, who moved to England this summer, scored two of the three Dutch goals in the 3-1 victory of coach Dick Advocaat's team. Afterwards, however, the mood was sour because rival Sweden was ahead on goal difference.
"Maybe we should win 3-0 against Sweden later. Well then we just have to win 3-0 against Sweden," Pröpper said himself. The Dutch, with Marco van Ginkel filling in briefly, must win the last two duels in the group stage anyway to have a chance of winning a World Cup playoff spot. In addition, the team must beat Sweden on goal difference.
Wijnaldum doesn't want to despair
Another former PSV midfielder did not want to despair after Sunday's results. Georginio Wijnaldum was well aware that the chances of World Cup participation had only diminished, "but we are still alive a little bit," he had it recorded in De Telegraaf. "As long as there are chances, we have to go for it. It can suddenly be different."
Mexico to World Cup thanks to Lozano
Things are going much better with Hirving Lozano 's Mexico. The Central American country qualified for the World Cup in Russia last weekend thanks to the PSV player by winning 1-0 against Panama. 'Chucky' scored the only goal of the match after entering the field as a substitute two minutes earlier. "I feel great," he jubilated afterwards. "I got the chance to score and now we are going to the World Cup. That was the goal beforehand."
Ramselaar scores for Jong Oranje
Young Oranje already played last Friday. At De Vijverberg, the team of former PSV Head of Youth Education Art Langeler played 1-1 against England. PSV's Bart Ramselaar scored on behalf of the young national side, who, like Steven Bergwijn and Pablo Rosario, had a starting place. Langeler was pleased with the PSV players' play.
No win for Arias
Santiago Arias did not get beyond a 0-0 draw against Venezuela. The PSV back played the entire match, but failed to secure a win with his compatriots against the number last of South America's World Cup qualifying group. Colombia is still in second place, but is hot on the heels of Uruguay (on one point), Chile and Argentina (on two points). On Tuesday night, Colombia plays an away game at leaders Brazil.
