Counting down to the anniversary, a portrait of a special PSV player appears every day in the Eindhovens Dagblad. Today: Ruud Gullit. Read his portrait in the PSV 'Gallery of Honor' here. If you scan the paper newspaper with Layar, the photo comes to life via a clip from PSV TV, which of course you can also watch here on PSV.nl.
After a lean period, the PSV board decides to do things differently. Ruud Gullit (born Dil) and Erik Gerets, two driven and mouthy players, give the team the right direction.
Top sports climate
Gullit's flair is working out well at PSV. A top sports climate arises in which great achievements are made. With 100 and 99 goals, PSV experiences an enormously productive period. Gullit has an important share with 24 and 22 goals. He became Footballer of the Year in 1986.
Nelson Mandela honored
In 1987, PSV broke up with Gullit, for whom big money beckoned abroad, and it eventually became AC Milan, where Gullit became European and World Player of the Year. The Golden Shoe he receives for the latter award is currently in South Africa. Gullit presents the award in 1994 to Nelson Mandela, the South African leader who is greatly admired by Gullit. After his career, he goes to work as a trainer, but it has not yet led to great successes.
