Captain Andrés Guardado of Mexico has won the Gold Cup with his country. The PSV midfielder led his country with a beautiful opening goal to a 3-1 win over Jamaica and the first cup since 2011. Guardado was also named best player of the tournament. For that, the midfielder received the golden ball.
Beautiful opening goal
Guardado broke the game open in the 31st minute in beautiful fashion. The captain got the ball high up the pitch from the right side of the pitch and then cleverly fired it into the roof of the goal. Immediately after halftime, FC Twente player Jesús Corona doubled the score. Oribe Peralta then decided the match after exactly one hour of play with the third goal of the evening. Darren Mattocks saved the Jamaican honor more than ten minutes before time, but at that point it was already clear that Guardado could hold up the Gold Cup first after the match.

Golden ball
In addition to winning the Central and North American Cup for Nations Teams, Guardado also received the Golden Ball. The Mexican was voted best player of the tournament, in part because of his many decisive goals. In total, Guardado scored six goals, one fewer than American Clint Dempsey. Guardado rejoins head coach Phillip Cocu's selection this week.
