Niek Schiks became the sixth player from PSV Academy to make his debut for the main squad this weekend. The 22-year-old goalkeeper has been with PSV for 14 years, so it was an emotional moment for the co-footed goalkeeper, who received a Frederik afterwards.

Back in 2024, Niek introduced himself to the public in the Player Profile section.

With his debut, Schiks is the first goalkeeper from the PSV Academy in thirteen years to make his official minutes for the first team. On Oct. 30, 2013, Nigel Bertrams preceded him when he made his debut under coach Phillip Cocu. At the time, Niek had just been part of PSV's youth academy for a year, then as a field player.

There is a good chance that Schiks will again be under the crossbar on Friday night during the away match against FC Volendam. Both Matěj Kovář and Nick Olij are currently injured.

Sixth debutant
Schiks is, after Noah Fernandez, Joël van den Berg, Tay Abed, Nicolas Verkooijen and Fabian Merién, the sixth youth player to make his debut for the PSV main squad.
