Andrés Guardado was put in the spotlight by PSV's selection and staff upon his return to sports complex De Herdgang on Friday morning for winning the Gold Cup. As captain of Mexico he guided his country to title victory. Guardado was also voted best player of the tournament, partly because of his six goals. For that performance he received the Golden Ball of the tournament.

To loud applause from the supporters present, Guardado received a framed photo on behalf of PSV, which was presented by head coach Phillip Cocu. The selection formed a guard of honor when the Mexican entered the training field, as they had done before with Oscar Hiljemark. After the tribute, Guardado tied his laces and began his first training session of this season with PSV.

Selection as good as complete
During the last open training leading up to the Johan Cruijff Schaal game against FC Groningen, the PSV selection was as good as complete. PSV will play Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Amsterdam ArenA for the first official prize of this season. Later in the day Cocu looks ahead to that match against FC Groningen in Zeist. You can read a report of the press conference afterwards on www.psv.nl/en.
