After qualifying for the semifinals of the TOTO KNVB Beker, the Eredivisie continues unopposed. PSV plays at home against Willem II, one of the oldest surviving clubs in Dutch Paid Football.
Since their first meeting in 1921, the two Brabant clubs will play their 47th game against each other this Saturday at Philips Stadium. PSV has a strong reputation in the Brabant derbies against Willem II. The Tilburgers have visited the Philips Stadium 46 times, where PSV stepped off the field victorious no less than 41 times. Three times the game ended in a draw and only twice the points went to Tilburg. Earlier this season both teams met at the Koning Willem II Stadium. With two goals from Man of the Match Ricardo Pepi, Peter Bosz 's team recorded a victory in Tilburg.
Exactly five years ago on Feb. 8, 2020, PSV also played at home against Willem II. PSV won that game 3-0 through goals by Denzel Dumfries, Ryan Thomas and an own goal by Mike Trésor Ndayishimiye.
Scoring power
PSV scores an average of 3.17 goals at home against Willem II, which is PSV's highest average against all current Eredivisie teams. In those 46 duels against Willem II, PSV scored 146 times, so it could possibly hit the milestone of 150 on Saturday. This will require four goals, which PSV managed in the previous home encounter against Willem II with a 4-2 victory. In that game, recent returnee Cody Gakpo was the Liverpool striker.
Players in red, white and blue
There are several (former) players who have represented both the red and white of our PSV and the tricolores of Willem II. One name that has represented both clubs is Jaap Stam. He played two years in Eindhoven and one year in Tilburg. Former PSV U21 coach Adil Ramzi has also represented both Brabant clubs, he even made the direct switch from Willem II to PSV in the year 2000. A name that will be especially familiar in Tilburg is that of Stijn Wuytens, for years a rock in the Tilburg defense. These days, he can be admired in the green of Belgian side Lommel SK, where he plays alongside Jason van Duiven, who left last summer.
