Next Saturday, PSV will travel to Amsterdam for the 70th time for the topper against Ajax. Earlier this season, Peter Bosz 's team saw the win slip from their fingers, so the champion of the Netherlands is keen to get a better result at the Johan Cruijff Arena.
PSV traveled to the capital 69 times before for the poster against Ajax. In Amsterdam, PSV usually does not have it easy and closed 22 matches winningly, 11 times the points were shared and 36 times the home team drew the longest. In these matches, PSV was effective 92 times, but conceded 133 goals.
Tough task
In recent years, PSV had it anything but easy visiting the Amsterdammers. For example, it last won at the Johan Cruijff Arena in 2022. In this match, PSV prevailed and goals by Luuk de Jong and Érick Gutiérrez ensured a 1-2 victory. In the last two editions of the topper in Amsterdam, PSV had a tougher time and did not win either game. Two years back, Luuk de Jong was again on target and the striker contributed to a 1-1 draw. Last season, Luuk scored for the eighth game in a row against the Amsterdammers and Ivan Perišić scored his first goal for PSV. It was to no avail, however, and Peter Bosz 's team eventually lost 3-2.
First by Yarek
PSV has a bone to pick with the Amsterdammers and earlier this season saw a victory go up in smoke in the closing stages of the match. In this match, PSV took the lead after only 7 minutes through a header by Ismael Saibari. After half an hour, the Amsterdammers came alongside through a utilized penalty by Kenneth Taylor. Just before time, PSV seemed to clinch the victory after Yarek Gąsiorowski made his first for PSV, taking the score to 2-1. However, the visiting side was effective in extremis and the match ended 2-2.
Race for spot two
While PSV can already call themselves champions for a while this season, Ajax's final position is far from certain. Oscar Garcia's team currently occupies the fourth spot in the league table, but is only four points away from the second spot, which entitles them to a UEFA Champions League ticket. For this reason, the Amsterdammers will not lack motivation and will give everything for a good result.
