The Otten Cup is facing an anniversary edition. During the weekend of August 5, 6 and 7, De Herdgang will host the internationally highly regarded youth tournament for the 70th time. In the coming weeks we will introduce all participating teams to you, starting with Red Bull Brasil and Paris Saint-Germain.
Brazilian gains in 2014
Energy drink giant Red Bull has been trying to gain a foothold in football for years. To generate brand awareness in South America as well, the company founded Red Bull Brasil in 2007. The club is steadily building success in Brazil. An important part of this is its youth training. Two years ago, Red Bull Brasil surprisingly won the Otten Cup by beating Liverpool FC 3-0, and in recent years several players have received individual honors. Last year Red Bull Brasil finished fifth, while in preparation for the youth tournament it was the best at the Copa St. Agatha. Head of youth training Carlos Roberto de Andrade's current crop includes such eye-catchers as Luiz Angelotti, Vieira Araujo and Luiz Angelotti.

Golden son
Under the leadership of Quatran president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Paris Sain-Germain has become one of the most tone-setting clubs in Europe. In part due to the club's many major purchases. Yet in recent years, PSG added talent from its own youth to the team ever so slightly. Among others, Adrien Rabiot, Jean-Kévin Augustin, Presnel Kimpembe and Hervin Ongenda were given a permanent place in the selection of the French champion. Who could well join them in the future is the son of former Golden Ball winner George Weah. The Parisians have included 17-year-old Timothy Weah in their Otten Cup squad this year. His father was the first African to be named the best football player in the world. Can Weah junior follow in his footsteps? In any case, he is the boy to keep an eye on.
