PSV O15 wins again
After the 2-1 defeat at Sparta, the O15 was yearning for a league victory. After five rounds of play (the team has yet to catch up against Excelsior and Vitesse), it had achieved only one victory in the regular league. That was a long time ago, on September 7 at home against, FC Utrecht. PSV then won very convincingly with clear figures: 5-1.
Despite having played two more games, Utrecht possessed as many points as the Eindhoveners. With 'only' 4 points, that put it in seventh place. Which would mean that it would miss out on qualification for the championship pool after the winter break. With that knowledge in mind, the match was very important for both teams.
PSV had the first chance of the match when Onesime Zimuangana shot the ball wide of the goal. Moments later, a Isaac Babadi effort was blocked, allowing Utrecht to get through the opening stages unscathed. Out of nowhere, Utrecht even made it 1-0 in the 12th minute. A cross from the left flank of PSV was tapped in. After 24 minutes, PSV came alongside. It was captain Jason van Duiven who promoted a Julian Kwaaitaal cross at the far post to a goal. Two minutes later Jason headed the Utrecht goalie alone after Isaac freed himself after a panna and sent Jason into the depths. Unfortunately Jason was whistled back for offside. An action that many questioned. Fortunately, it was only a delay because a minute later PSV went 1-2 up. Julian picked up the ball around the penalty area and fired the ball high inside. PSV could not enjoy the lead for long because in the 30th minute Utrecht headed in the 2-2 from a corner. Because Isaac only hit the inside of the post and Julian aimed too high, both teams went to rest with a 2-2 score.
After halftime, PSV had the strong wind at their backs. They immediately had a great opportunity when Julian crossed to the free Onesime Zimuangana, who unfortunately missed the ball. Utrecht came little more into the Eindhoveners' half after halftime. PSV did not create many chances, but twice they came close to taking the lead when Jason shot a ball just wide and almost headed in a cross from Renzo Tytens. After 67 minutes PSV finally rewarded themselves. Tim van den Heuvel crossed Elvic Jager, who calmly slotted the 2-3. After this Isaac Babadi decided the game after Elvic cleverly took advantage of a mistake by the Utrecht left back and laid the ball wide at the right moment to Isaac who then had no trouble closing the game.
PSV thus deservedly won the match in and against Utrecht and distanced itself from the two bottom spots. Indeed, if it wins the two catch-up matches, it will find a connection with the sub-top. Next week follows the home game with Feyenoord.
