Substantial defeat for O16
PSV played a match on Saturday in the category of 'very quickly forgotten'. The autumn sun could not inspire the team in any way and a motivated Vitesse treated the team of trainers Adil and Joonas to a defeat of no less than 4-0 at Sportcomplex Papendal.
Vitesse had analyzed well the match in Eindhoven just a few weeks ago, a bloodless 0-0. The team let itself sink in, used the long ball and gambled on the counter. Although PSV had plenty of space to play football in the first half, they were hardly dangerous. The best opportunity came for Milan, who in the 12th minute was sent towards the goalie by Heritier with a great cross pass. However, the striker tried his luck with an unconvincing "lob" that the goalkeeper defused in two instances. As Vitesse did not get any great opportunities either, goalkeeper Jurre's goal remained clean and the teams went into the break with a 0-0 score.
PSV in the second half a number of chances. Jason shot 1-on-1 against the goalkeeper and Alberto almost scored the opening goal with a nice volley at a corner. A goal by Amin was disallowed by the referee for unclear reasons. But eventually Vitesse's play paid off shortly after halftime, taking a 2-0 lead within five minutes with two sharp counters after PSV lost the ball. A lead that PSV could not recover. Although the trainers changed a defender for an extra attacker a quarter of an hour before time, PSV was unable to give Vitesse any more problems and even had to watch as Vitesse extended their lead to 4-0 in the last quarter of an hour, partly due to a penalty.
A hefty and deserved defeat for O16, which fortunately can quickly take revenge for this underperformance. PSV will play the league match against AZ on Wednesday afternoon, March 28 at 16:00 at the Herdgang.
