Guti: ’Spend extra time together as a family’

PSV Campus De Herdgang is closed for at least the next few weeks. Just like everybody else, all PSV players are advised to stay at home as much as possible. One of them is Érick ‘Guti’ Gutiérrez, the Mexico international. How does he stay fit? What does he watch and what book does he read? In other words, what does he do every day now that he is staying at home.

What do you eat? Who does the cooking in your home?
“I eat anything my wife tells me to. She knows how to cook the perfect spaghetti.”

What do you do to fight boredom?
“I work out a lot, play with my children, read books and watch series and films.”

Do you watch Netflix series?   
“I’m watching ‘Narcos México’, very entertaining but also interesting to see how it all started in Mexico. And I think you should watch ‘All or Nothing’, a series of sports documentaries following sports teams throughout a competitive season.”

Which films can you recommend?
“I like sports films like ‘Duelo de Titanes’, ‘Moneyball’, ‘Jerry Maguire’, ‘Blind Side’ and ‘Coach Carter’.”

What one book would you recommend?
“I’ve just started reading ‘Shoe Dog’, the autobiography of Nike co-founder Phil Knight.”

Do you play games?
“I frequently play ‘Free Fire’ these days.”

Are you feeling worried ?
“Of course I am slightly worried. But as long as we follow the directions of the authorities and take care of each other, we will hopefully overcome the global coronavirus crisis as quickly as possible.”

What do you miss most right now?   
“I miss Mexico, the delicious food and my family and friends. But most of all I miss football.”

What is your favourite Spotify number?   
“René van Calle 13.”

How do you keep yourself and your family entertained?
“We’ve got two children: Santiago and Catalina. We do a lot of things to entertain them. It is wonderful to spend extra time together as a family”
