Maher reduced deficit in first half

PSV head coach Phillip Cocu fielded a strong side against Sparta Prague, handing a start to, among other players, captain Georginio Wijnaldum and Luuk de Jong. After a one minute silence for the terrorist attack victims in Paris, PSV started brightly and Wijnaldum, Memphis and De Jong each had a chance to open the scoring. Hendrix was taken off with an injury on 30 minutes and Guardado came off the bench to replace him. PSV failed to maintain their focus and Sparta Prague capitalised immediately, with Dockal and Lafata scoring two goals in quick succession. PSV fought back and Adam Maher reduced the deficit on the stroke of half-time from an assist by Arias. Half-time score: 1-2.

PSV scored four second-half goals

Assisted by a string tailwind, PSV started to take control of the game after the break. Showing attacking intent, they surged forward in numbers and it was all square again on 65 minutes when Memphis slotted home: 2-2. Five minutes later, PSV took the lead for the first time when Luuk de Jong headed home Narsingh´s cross. De Jong again found the back of the net with fifteen minutes remaining and Wijnaldum scored PSV´s fifth goal in the closing stages. Phillip Cocu rewarded Yanick van Osch for showing great work ethic during the one-week training camp in Gran Canaria by handing the 17-year old goalkeeper his PSV debut in the 87th minute. The PSV travelling party will fly back to the Netherlands on Monday.
