PSV U21 had a chance to make it three home wins out of three when they took ADO Den Haag at PSV Campus De Herdgang on Monday night, but Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side slipped to a narrow defeat. The good news is that Maxi Romero came off the bench to make his long-awaited return from injury.
ADO Den Haag had the first chance of the game but PSV goalkeeper U21 Vincent Müller made a reflex save. The hosts survived another scare when an ADO Den Haag forward rattled the woodwork. PSV U21 gradually started to take control of the game and created a number of half chances. Cheick Touré just missed finishing a cross with a sliding shot. Belgian midfielder Samy Bourard put the visitors ahead in the 42nd minute.
Return from injury
Van Nistelrooy made two changes at half-time but his team failed to create clear-cut chances. Maxi Romero, who suffered a knee injury in September 2020, replaced Touré to make his long-awaited return from injury in the 70th minute. Luis Felipe also made his return from injury after a lengthy lay-off. PSV U21 threw everything forward in the closing stages but could not score an equaliser. PSV U21 will return to league action on Friday when they make a trip to Rotterdam to face Excelsior.
