Zoet misses clash with Vitesse

PSV head coach Phillip Cocu faced the media during his weekly press briefing on Friday afternoon ahead of his side’s trip to Vitesse on Saturday. Jeroen Zoet will miss the game and is doubtful for Tuesday’s clash with FC Bayern München as well. Jürgen Locadia is also ruled out due to an injury.

Narsingh and Siem de Jong
Cocu told PSV TV that Zoet pulled a muscle when he attempted to kick the ball away. Jürgen Locadia’s recovery is progressing well. “He took part in finishing drills but tomorrow night’s game comes too early for him. Siem de Jong and Luciano Narsingh will also miss the game through injury.”

Cocu pleased with the squad’s response
Cocu did not only preview Saturday’s game against Vitesse, but he also took time to look back at Tuesday’s KNVB Beker defeat at Sparta in Rotterdam. “We’ve analysed the game together and the players had their say in a team meeting. I am pleased with the squad’s response and hope we will see a display of intensity on Saturday. We need to put in a passionate and spirited display against Vitesse.”

‘Draw the positives from the game’
Cocu did not dwell too long on last week’s poor performances. “If you keep on repeating that things are not going your way, it is bound to be a self-fulfilling prophesy. We can also draw the positives from our last few games, which will stimulate the players’ minds.”

Turnaround in fortunes
Cocu feels a turnaround in fortunes is imminent. “We may very well record an empathic victory shortly. Strikers may end their goal drought all of a sudden. Every season witnesses high and lows. We have a point to prove to end a poor run.”
