Willem II v PSV- facts and figures

PSV last left Tilburg empty-handed twelve seasons ago, in March 2004. Bart Van den Eede struck twice and Tom Caluwé added a third goal to help Willem II to a 3-1 win over PSV. Johan Vonlanthen scored a consolation goal.

A 2-2 draw in last season’s corresponding fixture
PSV then extended their winning streak in Tilburg and Eindhoven to eighteen matches, which is a new Eredivisie record. They were held to a 2-2 draw by Willem II in last season’s corresponding fixture. Pereiro and Luuk de Jong got their name on the score sheet for PSV, while Erik Falkenburg bagged a brace for Willem II.

Scoring a double, Falkenburg set a new record. He is the only Eredivisie player who netted four goals against PSV with three different clubs, Willem II, AZ and Go Ahead Eagles.  So PSV must find a way to shackle Willem II’s ‘killer’ striker.

Eindhoven roots
Willem II have a number of players who plied their trade before at De Herdgang training facilities and the Philips Stadion. Nigel Bertrams, Freek Heerkens and Dries Wuytens all came through the PSV youth ranks but never made a first-team appearance. Willem II midfielder Funso Ojo was handed eleven starts in the Eredivisie for PSV. He made his PSV debut against ….. Willem II!
