41-year-old Wilfred Bouma joins PSV U21’s coaching team as assistant coach to Edwin de Wijs. The former PSV defender replaces Twan Scheepers who has left PSV to become specialist first-team coach at Derby County.
Bouma is happy with his new role: ‘’I came to know head coach Peter Uneken and assistant coach Edwin de Wijs when I was on trial with the club. When Twan Scheepers left the PSV youth set up after fourteen years, there was a job vacancy and they asked me to fill the void. I am delighted to be back.”
“Help youngsters to break into the first team’
Together with the members of the coaching staff, Bouma looks to continue along the path taken. “We want to find and develop young players, keep producing young players who make the grade and help them break into the first team.”
Wilfred Bouma will be in charge for the first time on Monday evening when PSV U21 host FC Den Bosch in the opening game of the new season.
