After taking charge for the first time as PSV head coach in a competitive game in the Philips Stadion, Mark van Bommel faced the press for a post-match analysis of the Dutch Super Cup. He did not beat about the bush: “When you play a final, you should win it.”

“But there is much to be satisfied with: we won the ball back quickly and put in a decent performance. There is always key moments in a game that are decisive. Luuk de Jong had a goal disallowed, while Hirving Lozano and Tonny Vilhena had chances to break the deadlock”, said Van Bommel, who was pleased with Lozano’s display. “He resumed training ten days ago and you could see tonight how important he is for our team. He has great quality.”

Van Bommel also provided a transfer update. “We are always on the lookout in the transfer market and I can confirm that we want to bolster our defensive options with the signing of Trent Sainsbury.”
