“We need to take the three points on Sunday”

One day after being held to a 0-0 draw by AS Monaco, PSV turned their attention to Sunday’s Eredivisie fixture away from home to Fortuna Sittard. The physical exertions from the clash in Monaco will certainly have taken its toll and will have an impact on Sunday’s game in the county of Limburg, but head coach Roger Schmidt is feeling confident of a good result.

“Take a hot start”
“All teams in the Dutch league feel more confident when they enjoy home advantage. And the support of the home fans is of great importance. We know what to expect in a stadium with a huge roar and tremendous atmosphere, so we will have to take a hot start. It’s an important game for us. We need to take the three points on Sunday”, said Schmidt, addressing the media on Friday afternoon.

Growing injury list
PSV's growing injury list is impressive and Carlos Vinícius and Yorbe Vertessen may be added to the llist. They were forced to leave the pitch in Monaco after they had sustained an injury. Schmidt could not tell the media whether they would be available on Sunday. “They will undergo a medical examination on Friday afternoon and then we will assess them.”

Injury update
Noni Madueke, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Thomas and Mario Götze. Schmidt missed Thursday’s game. The quartet did not make the trip to Monaco and PSV’s head coach does not think it is likely they will be match fit on Sunday.
