PSV head coach Roger Schmidt and Jorrit Hendrix looked ahead to the second Group E match in the UEFA Europa league in the GSP Stadium. The team, depleted by coronavirus cases, was the main topic at the press briefing. ‘’We must make the most of it. We miss several players but we consider it a challenge to perform to the best of our capacities with the team that we have. I think it’s the only thing we can do”, said Hendrix referring to the coronavirus that has hit PSV hard.
‘For me, it’s a challenge’
Roger Schmidt says he is not scared of challenges. ‘’It’s my main focus to prepare the team well. For me, it is a challenge to guide a team that is ready to fight back to win.” PSV need a win to make amends for the defeat they suffered in their Group E opening game against Granada CF last week. “We want to reach the knockout stages of the tournament. That’s what we’re here for and we really need a win after last week’s defeat.”
Fighting as a team
Hendrix insists that PSV will show fighting spirit when they go out on Thursday night.‘’We’re highly motivated right now. We must put in a solid team display and I can assure you we’ll go out to try and secure the three points.”
Both Roger Schmidt and Jorrit Hendrix claimed that it has never been an option to refuse to play on Thursday night. “We respect the rules set up by UEFA and the Cypriot authorities and that’s why Zahavi and Zeze have not joined the travelling party”, said Schmidt. “You are expected to start, when you have thirteen players, including one goalkeeper. Well, we have thirteen players and look to give our best performance”, concluded Hendrix.
