PSV head coach Mark van Bommel was happy with his side’s 1-0 victory against FK Haugesund but he was not impressed by his team’s performance. “We put in a poor display but it is the result that matters.”
Van Bommel was a bit sore over the team’s lack of sharpness in front of goal. “We did not make the right choices. We lacked the final pass and did not put our forwards clean through with a through ball, although we had chances to do so.”
Timo Baumgartl made his competitive debut for PSV and Van Bommel was satisfied with the German defender’s display. “He was rock solid in defence.” PSV host the Norwegians in the return leg in the Philips Stadion in a week’s time. “We are favourites to go through to the playoffs”, concluded Van Bommel.
