Vitesse, who host PSV tonight in round 11 of the 2016/17 Eredivisie campaign, are having a solid season, with fifteen points from ten games. Head coach Henk Fraser has guided seventh-placed Vitesse to victories over Willem II, Roda JC, Go Ahead Eagles and FC Groningen. His team worked hard in the Amsterdam ArenA and Ajax were happy to record a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
Vitesse have some key players. Their goalkeeper Eloy Room has not missed a minute of action yet this season, just like Guram Kashia and Marvelous Nakamba. Kelvin Leerdam, Lewis Baker, on loan from Chelsea, and Ricky van Wolfswinkel, who joined PSV last summer, are also first-team regulars.
Van Wolfswinkel and Baker are Vitesse’s joint top scorers, with five goals each. Vitesse have been efficient during set-pieces this season. Van Wolfswinkel converted two penalties, while Baker has struck four trademark bending free kicks, more than any other Eredivisie player.
PSV are wary of the danger posed by Vitesse. They only recorded a narrow 1-0 win in last season’s corresponding fixture, courtesy of a great last-gasp goal by Jorrit Hendrix. The midfielder misses tonight’s clash in Arnhem due to an injury.
