Van Ginkel: ‘We’ll go for it’

PSV captain Marco van Ginkel took time after the 2-1 win over Vitesse to thank all the PSV fans for their support in 2017. His speech and congratulations did not go unnoticed: ‘We are top of the league, we are top of the league”, the crowd chanted. “We’ll go for it ”, Van Ginkel responded.

‘Wake-up call’
PSV had to come back from a goal down to win the game. “0-1 served as a wake-up call”, said van Ginkel. “But we fought back and it was all square at half-time. And the second goal, soon after the break, was scored at a very appropriate moment”, said PSV’s captain, who played down critical remarks about PSV’s style of play. “We are on the receiving end of criticism nearly every week. I won’t say that it was our best performance ever, but we certainly had our moments tonight.”

Cocu: ‘Put on a mature display’
PSV head coach Phillip Cocu hailed a mature performance after his side had beaten Vitesse. “We put on a mature display and kept calm when we were a goal down. Apart from the shock defeat against Osijek, we  are happy with the first part of the season.” PSV extended their winning streak in the Philips Stadion to twenty in a row. “It’s a remarkable series, but actually I am not one to pay much attention to data and statistics. But it shows we’ve made the Philips Stadion a fortress. And now we are going to enjoy a nice break.”

PSV resume training on Thursday, 4 January, at 10.30 and will jet off to America to stage a winter training camp the next day.
