Mark van Bommel looked ahead to the first leg of the Europa League qualifying third round in the pressroom of the Haugesund Stadium. PSV’s head coach insisted that his team has a clear objective: “We must win the game and progress to the playoffs.”
PSV have been extensively scouting FK Haugesund the past few days and head coach Mark van Bommel showed off his knowledge at the press conference ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with the Norwegian hosts. “”Do you happen to know how tall their right back Desler is?”, he asked the media representatives, smiling brightly. “Well, the correct answer is 1,78! You know we take each game seriously and prepare ourselves thoroughly, whether it is a Champions League encounter or a Europa League tie”, Van Bommel explained.
Levels of strength
Van Bommel refused the discuss the different levels of strength between the two teams, if any. “You should always respect any opponent. We both play Europa League qualifying games. We obviously want to win but so do Haugesund.”
Mark van Bommel insisted that PSV have a clear objective. “We go out onto the pitch tomorrow night and have only one thing on our mind: win the game. After we bowed out of the UEFA Champions league we are keen to progress to the Europa League playoff round and qualify for the group stages.”
Biggest game ever
Norwegian media representatives made it clear that the clash with PSV is maybe the biggest game in the club’s history. Van Bommel: “It may be a big game for our hosts, but is also a big game for us. Again, we want to want to reach the next round.”
