Mark van Bommel was happy with the 3-1 win over RKC Waalwijk but dissatisfied with a poor performance. “But after a lacklustre first half we got down to business”, he said, speaking after the game.
Lacklustre first half
PSV were trailing RKC 1-0 at half time. Van Bommel: “We put in a lacklustre first half display. We did not use the space left behind their defenders and did not press high on the pitch. There were too many moments of slow transitions.”
PSV pinned RKC back in their own half after the break and the goal was coming. “We kept possession tight spaces, received and passed at speed and created chances.”
Two substitutes, Kostas Mitroglou and Bruma, turned the game around. “We have more attacking options. The players that came in would be handed a start in many other teams”, explained Van Bommel., who singled out goalscorer Mitroglou for praise. “He is a very good and clever striker. He can hold the ball, score with his head and unleash vicious shots.”
