Mark van Bommel spoke to the press on Wednesday evening, ahead of the Europa League encounter with LASK Linz on Thursday. PSV’s head coach hopes his charges will end a losing streak when they take on LASK in their fourth Group D game.
‘’We failed to win our last four games, so it is only natural that critical questions arise”, said Van Bommel, who was asked if he would make tactical changes against the Austrian opposition. “I am not in favour of making wholesale changes. I prefer to stick to our style of play. In football, you have to look at the long run. It takes time to put across your ideas to your players and come up with the kind of style they feel comfortable with.”
A strong sense of unity
Van Bommel is proud of the way everybody at PSV copes with the current situation and praised the strong sense of unity within the club. “PSV are a big club. We are expected to win our games. I am aware of that, just like all the officials, the board of directors, the players, the coaching staff and our supporters.”
Ibrahim Afellay has joined the squad to face an opponent in a European competition for the first time this season. “Ibi is part of the squad, because I think he will add value to the team. But we feel he is not ready to start yet.”
