PSV have claimed their first win of the 2019/20 season after a 3-1 victory over ADO Den Haag. Head coach Mark van Bommel was happy with his team’s performance: “It was the best game so far”, he said, speaking after the game.
Van Bommel believed his side thoroughly deserved their 3-1 victory, but added that if PSV had taken their chances they would have won more comfortably. “We started well and created enough chances. Against the run of play, ADO Den Haag took the lead but we kept on dominating the game. We succeeded in breaking down the visitors’ defence after the break. We had a plethora of chances to finish off the game and could have scored six goals.”
Cody Gakpo came off the bench to replace Hirving Lozano and capped a fine performance with an injury-time goal. “I can understand why he is one the favourite players of the fans. Cody has the qualities to be a top striker. He combines strength and speed.”
