The Eredivisie returns to action after the winter break, with PSV travelling to the county of Drenthe on Sunday to face newly-promoted FC Emmen. Mark van Bommel previewed Sunday’s clash with the media at De Herdgang training facilities on Friday afternoon. PSV’s head coach cannot wait to get started. “It was a long wait and I am glad we will finally return to action”, said Van Bommel.
Prefer to play on
The coach, who has a near fully-fit squad to choose from for this Sunday’s meeting with FC Emmen, would have preferred to play on, following the win over AZ in the last game before the winter break. “We were in a flow and organised a training camp in Qatar to keep the momentum. As a player, I always wanted to carry on and now that I am in charge of PSV as head coach I hold the same view.”
Sadílek
It was announced earlier today that Mark van Bommel had added Michal Sadílek to the first-team squad. The Czech youngster had already made his senior debut earlier this season and has been training with the senior squad for some time yet. Mark van Bommel. “I told him on Wednesday to report for training on Friday morning. He is rewarded for all his efforts and he is happy with the next step in his career. He sets an inspiring example to all youth players.”
Absentees
Ryan Thomas faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, while Maxi Romero, Aziz Behich and Trent Sainsbury are away on international duty. The Australian defender represent their country at the Asia Cup, while Romero takes part with Argentina U20 in the 2019 South American U20 Championship.
FC Emmen
FC Emmen were promoted to the Eredivisie this season. PSV thrashed them 6-0 in this season’s previous encounter in the Philips Stadion. Mark van Bommel: “We go into the clash knowing we need a win to stay top of the Eredivisie table. The winter break is over and we need to be ready and at our top.”
